It was always going to be tight trying to open a new gallery space with 5 magic beans but like Jack with his Beanstalk, we were brave or stupid enough to give it a go. Now Im sorry to say that the giant recession has caught up with us and we have to move out of our beautiful Rivington Street space. We are going to try sofa surfing for a while and the website will remain optimistically open. Appointments to view work can be arranged for those willing to travel to sunny Hastings for the afternoon, where Stella Dore will be searching for a more permanent residence. Thanks to all who came to our shows, and all our fantastic artists and customers who we hope will continue to support us.
Temporarily, while the removal men are working, those needing to email the gallery please contact stephkatewarren@yahoo.co.uk. The gallery telephone 0207 7393 004 will remain unchanged.

All the best,

Stella Dore

The album artwork has already been completed, based on stencils by Sixten.

Those of you who with good memories and/or a good subversive cultural knowledge will know of Noki, or Dr Noki as the original re-constructor. In 2000 Noki worked closely with our very own Ben Eine to create ‘Eine Koin’ – a working collection of one off T-shirts. These shirts quickly became Shoreditch uniform and the boys were extremely popular in Japan. Noki is also credited as the first person to use the Evening Standard posters as a subversive method of communication, creating a new generation aware of voyeurism and shock titillation. Often the shocking headline, snatches of someone else’s misery and most essentially advertisement to get people to purchase the Standard were subverted to create further fantastical headlines – READ ALL ABOUT IT!!

The Kid Acne "Smoke & Mirrors" Solo show

"The wizard behind the curtain" - An occult themed show featuring Ouija Boards, Tarot cards & Stone Masonry influenced pieces. Throughout the month the exhibition will be making people anxious with dramatic ambient music from Cherrystones. However those that missed the private view willl have lost out on the full atmostphere of dry ice and some amazing Kid Acne characters wandering through the crowd and out onto Rivington Street to set the scene. Many thanks to Katharine Wallinger for making the beautiful heads that freaked us and the crowd out. Also thanks to Thornbridge brewery for bringing a Sheffield vibe to Shoreditch.
The show is running until the 25th April 2009...... click on the image below for details on the show screen print 'Smoke and Mirrors' - edition of 25, signed, numbered and only £60.

P.S = Apologies to Hackney council, we didn't know so many people would show up - we can't promise it won't happen again but we'll get some bin bags in next time.... (cheers Mario!)

Good Day All! Phew, thank god all that festive nonsense is over, can't say we didn't enjoy it but it’s mighty nice to be back in real life again. Plus we've been working on the Stella Dore exhibition diary and we have a cracker of a schedule planned for 2009.

As usual we can't reveal all our secrets now, but do look forward to some great shows from Eelus, Cept, Eine and Rugman, as well as a long overdue debut from I-Lib and a guest appearance from fashion legend Noki, among others. Also in the works is another collective trip abroad, but more about all that later.

Kicking off the schedule for us is our newest (although not for long!) member of the family, Pam Glew. Her show 'Noir' is an exploration of film noir and its associations with fear, corruption and crime. For anyone familiar with Pam's work, you will know that she tends to work directly onto vintage flags - using a magic formula known only to her - re-creating an image within the fabric. This show opens on 26th February and runs until 21st March.

Following Pam, and about time in our opinion, is a Kid Acne solo show 'Smoke & Mirrors'. Liberally sampling and combining iconography from sources such as Freemasonary, Demonology and Paganism, Kid Acne intends to transform our gallery space into a secret society setting for his tribe of scantily clad ladies. This exhibition/installation will open on 2nd April.

Okay so that is all coming up, but right now we have some great works on show in the gallery, plus a new I-lib print which, as soon as he actually signs, will be available online and in store. Our new gallery space at 47 Rivington Street, EC2A is well worth a visit so do pop in if you're in the area (we know some of you will be here for the London Art Fair in Islington, just round the corner, so no excuses).

In the meantime please feast your eyes on this new piece from Kid Acne which is currently gracing our walls.... TTFN x

NEW STELLA DORE ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT – PAM GLEW
Stella Dore is proud to announce Pam Glew is joining our list of artists. Pam is a great young artist, and admits to being shamelessly addicted to obscure horror films. It is this interest that has become the basis for her ‘Fear’ series, which focuses on manipulating screen stills of women in distress in horror films. Her originals feature these images bleached and dyed onto different materials, including vintage flags and antique books. To view available work from Pam Glew click on the images.

The street art world has been making waves for a good long time now and has finally made its way all the way up to the dizzy heights of the couture fashion world. It's only fitting as with all fashion it takes its creative inspiration from everywhere especially contemporary art. This ''Wode" Paint'' Perfume by Boudicca has got a whole campaign of street artists to promote their new 'street art' scent. Should you see a "Wode" tag, be sure to line it out.

Banksy's first show in New York City ''The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill'' No graffiti, no canvases or prints. This show is actually a Pet shop where the animals inside are very strange indeed.
In one part of the shop we can see McDonalds Chicken Nuggets pecking at a tub of BBQ sauce, breaded fish swimming round a large fish bowl while hot dogs are incubated in heated tanks with mustard feeding bottles.
The only real animal is the live leopard that lives in the shop window lounging in a tree, the others are made up of animatronics. The Shop is open to the Public until Oct 31st Halloween, click on image for more info.

The paintings were produced and framed on site; you can see the process in the pictures below along with the finished product. CANS FESTIVAL MAY BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND

This Bank Holiday weekend Stella Dore artists Eine, Pure Evil and Rugman were among the key players on the urban art scene who came together to exhibit in the massive Cans Festival.

Don't panic if you didn't manage to get down there, I have been told the work will be left on site for 6 months so you will be able to see it next time your passing and will be lucky enough to avoid the 2 hour queue that some people had to wait to get into the show this weekend.
Well worth it though.

We have a sneak peek from the up coming show at La Viande Gallery in Shoreditch on Friday 2nd May (for more info scroll down for flyer or visit www.whos-jack.co.uk ) starring our very own Twinkle Troughton and Tinsel Edwards. Twinkle will be continuing with her observant view of British culture with this beauty named 'Red, White and Blue on the Costa Del Blah, Blah, Blah'.

Twinkle - 'Red, White and Blue on the Costa Del Blah Blah Blah'

For those of you not familiar with Twinkle's take on today’s Britain, check out her section on this site, she has remarkable insight that will definitely make you smile.

Eine has been busy as ever, not only painting some great new canvasses but giving some Hackney billboards a make over. Anyone familiar with the area will know how apt the piece is.....

Its amazing 'live' so head up to Hackney Wick if you dare. As Cept would say "E9 Bang Bang".

I-Lib has been very busy recently producing some beautiful hand drawn lettering... like something out of a fairytale, a murderous fairytale. Check out his gallery section for images and more information. He has also been painting outside and has done this beautiful tribute to Stella.... we are encouraging others to do the same!

Eine - Exciting

Eine has just completed his biggest piece of street art yet, covering the famous 333 with the word 'Exciting'. The piece is huge and spans two storeys and a whole corner. It's amazing to see first hand if you get the chance; it's located on Old Street just at the corner of Hoxton.
