It was always going to be tight trying to open a new gallery space with 5 magic beans but like Jack with his Beanstalk, we were brave or stupid enough to give it a go. Now Im sorry to say that the giant recession has caught up with us and we have to move out of our beautiful Rivington Street space. We are going to try sofa surfing for a while and the website will remain optimistically open. Appointments to view work can be arranged for those willing to travel to sunny Hastings for the afternoon, where Stella Dore will be searching for a more permanent residence. Thanks to all who came to our shows, and all our fantastic artists and customers who we hope will continue to support us.
Temporarily, while the removal men are working, those needing to email the gallery please contact stephkatewarren@yahoo.co.uk. The gallery telephone 0207 7393 004 will remain unchanged.
All the best,
Stella Dore

Those of you who with good memories and/or a good subversive cultural knowledge will know of Noki, or Dr Noki as the original re-constructor. In 2000 Noki worked closely with our very own Ben Eine to create ‘Eine Koin’ – a working collection of one off T-shirts. These shirts quickly became Shoreditch uniform and the boys were extremely popular in Japan. Noki is also credited as the first person to use the Evening Standard posters as a subversive method of communication, creating a new generation aware of voyeurism and shock titillation. Often the shocking headline, snatches of someone else’s misery and most essentially advertisement to get people to purchase the Standard were subverted to create further fantastical headlines – READ ALL ABOUT IT!!

Very funny (as always with Modern Toss) - This new book features some old fave's such as Mr Tourette, Cheese and Wine and Drive By Abuser and some new treats such as Business Disaster... The Kid Acne "Smoke & Mirrors" Solo show
"The wizard behind the curtain" - An occult themed show featuring Ouija Boards, Tarot cards & Stone Masonry influenced pieces. Throughout the month the exhibition will be making people anxious with dramatic ambient music from Cherrystones. However those that missed the private view willl have lost out on the full atmostphere of dry ice and some amazing Kid Acne characters wandering through the crowd and out onto Rivington Street to set the scene. Many thanks to Katharine Wallinger for making the beautiful heads that freaked us and the crowd out. Also thanks to Thornbridge brewery for bringing a Sheffield vibe to Shoreditch.
The show is running until the 25th April 2009...... click on the image below for details on the show screen print 'Smoke and Mirrors' - edition of 25, signed, numbered and only £60.
P.S = Apologies to Hackney council, we didn't know so many people would show up - we can't promise it won't happen again but we'll get some bin bags in next time.... (cheers Mario!)
